Meet a Northwest Cherry Grower
Norm Gutzwiler Master Cherry Grower Growing Philosophy"Caring for you orchard is like caring for your kids" You care for your orchard and do nothing to harm it. You take care of your soil and nurture your trees. In turn, your trees take care of you by producing premium fruit. Soil is key. Soil samples are collected and every aspect of the soil is maintained in a ratio usable by the tree. Weeds and grasses are mowed to prevent nutrient competition with the trees. We measure evaporation and transpiration, so that we only apply water as needed. Over-watering flushes nutrients from the soil. Pruning not only removes unproductive wood from the tree, but the fallen limbs are mulched to donate nutrient matter back to the soil. |
